Thought I would do a quick rundown of our Christmas activities so that I will remember them.
Dec. 22 - Our Christmas Eve - I attempted a recipe that Mark's Mom makes. Apparently it was good, but not as good. After supper we headed out to Airdrie to see the Christmas lights display they have out there. Apparently there was some warning that we were coming and the weather was cold and windy, (it has been every year we have gone), even though the rest of the week was nice.
Dec. 23 - Christmas day - The story was read, the stockings opened, and the gifts opened and I made us chicken & stuffing for lunch. It really isn't Christmas without stuffing. We spent the day inside playing with new toys, putting Aslynn's castle together and watching CARS. For supper we invited some friends over and ate appetizers and leftovers.
Dec. 24 - Christmas Eve - again. Mark lead worship at church in the morning and I ran sound so the morning was not so relaxing but in the afternoon we had naps. Then Mark & Micah headed off to do some skating with the church and I went to help mom get ready for supper. Christmas Eve meal is always oil fondue at the Nation's and it takes a little work to prepare. After stuffing ourselves we played games and sent the kids to bed at Grandma's.
Dec. 25 - Christmas Day - Presents at Grandma & Grandpa's followed by the whole traditional Turkey meal with all the trimmings. Most of the family was sick, (except us), so there were a lot of leftovers, but oh was it good. In the afternoon the boys headed out sledding again.
Dec. 26 - Shayla was born!!
Dec. 27 - We headed up to spend some time with Aslynn's birth mom at her Grandma's house. We exchanged presents with her and went out for lunch. The trip home was in almost blizzard conditions and it took us 2 1/2 hours for a trip that is normally 1 1/2. The good part about getting home was that we got to go see Shayla for the first time.
Dec. 29 - Trip to Grande Prairie. The kids did really good in the van. We love being home and loved spending time with our family there. We spent some good days visiting with many friends and also celebrated Christmas with Mark's relatives, the Janzens, on New Years day. Mark's immediate family was able to all get together on the second and it was so good to see everyone in one place. There is lots of snow in Grande Prairie so we went skidooing three days in a row, and sledding, and also skating one day. It's good to be out of the city for awhile. Micah is such a city boy that he is overwhelmed a little, he also doesn't know what to do with all that snow and didn't get into playing in it as much as I would like. My favorite comment of his was, "Mommy, there's so much snow, it's everywhere, it's even on the roads!!". Only a city boy would think that snow on the roads is unusual as they plow here as soon as possible. Micah also enjoyed playing with his cousins. Mark's sister, Carmen, has three boys and Micah thinks they are the best thing ever. I'm sure he would love being closer to them and enjoy more play time. We will have to make sure that we take more trips up there in the future so that he can get to know the boys better.
