There may be an epidemic of stir-craziness developing in our household. The kids want to be outside in the mud and snow and sunlight, we want to be away from the house and just 'out', and none of us wants to master the ugly task of spring cleaning. Please help us. Here are some of our symptoms:
Spilling lots - the floors are begging to be washed and it seems that fluid is making its way there without much help from us. It has been almost a daily occurance. It began with Micah balancing a bowl on his head before supper. He proceeded to then hoist his cup above the bowl to add to the spectacle. Well, the bowl was empty - the cup was not. Goosh! Micah had a wide-eyed open-mouthed face-full of water. That was definitely worth a laugh. Following that I knocked over a pitcher of water on the floor, Aslynn spilled some milk, Faith dropped the Salsa bottle and smashed it, and also kicked a can of Coke under the couch. Yeouch! Micah spilling milk on his lap this morning just reminded me.
Getting into things - you may believe that this is simply a household trend, but really, we do watch our children! Aslynn decided she wanted some tea, so she got the tea bags from the microwave stand, opened the container on the couch, and then tore every bag open and sprinkled the contents near and far. Micah sat and watched delightedly. Hey, he's not without his own charm!
Visitors come and go - Mom and Dad Siebert, Luke and Lindy, and Grandpa and Grandma Janzen have all come to visit in recent days. The first two were off on holidays to exotic destinations, and the latter were at a funeral. If that isn't enough to make you want to get out, I don't know what will! A few 4 and 5 AM trips to the airport gets your blood pumping and senses racing, especially when the alarm goes off and you're supposed to be picking someone up from the airport the moment you awake! Sorry Luke and Lindy...
Utterance of tongues - yes, there has been an air of strange and wonderful sayings floating through the house. Judah is gurgling and cooing to us now. Aslynn is babbling away (as in the case of Donkey in Shrek, the trick is getting her to shut up), and Micah has been less than polite. Rather cranky and rude at one moment, whiny and grumbling the next, shrieking and wailing to follow.
Grandpa and Grandma Janzen took us out for lunch where of course Grandpa tried to get a rise out of him by calling him 'Cactus'. Sound familiar, Carmen? Micah just called him Cactus right back. When we arrived back at our place with them (Faith had to take the van to a baby shower), the house was a bit of a mess and we weren't prepared for company. Grandpa saw a pair of Micah's ginch on the floor, picked it up, and slid it over Micah's head. "How do you like your hat?" Grandpa commented.
When it was time for them to leave, they were looking for hugs from the kids, which they obliged them with in abundance, and as they were leaving, Micah blurts out, "Good-bye silly underwear hat!" to Grandpa. We all had a good chuckle. What do you do with those ones? It's not like he doesn't have it coming, but Micah needs to learn to respect his elders and control his tongue too...
Everything falls apart - new underwear, new shoes, a new bumper, new tires, and perhaps a new hot water tank are on the menu. There's more, but you get the idea.
Busy-ness isn't technically a symptom because it's ever so prevalent in our life. We need to restock the meat freezer, get documents to and from court, go to Red Deer, host or attend separate Men's and Ladies Events, write a 7 day devotional, organize 24/7 Prayer for next week, hold a welcome dessert, and I'm sure more than that. Now that I've listed it all, I'd better get going! We have a surprise you'll find out more about later...
