Mark is with the youth group at YC this weekend. This means A LOT of time without Daddy in the house. Granted he is staying here at night time. (him and 14 other guys.) By staying here at night time it means we get to see him from 2:00 am - 8:30am. He's sleeping for 5 of those hours and the other 1 1/2 consists of making breakfast for 15 boys, and getting them up and going and making sure that they pack their lunches. Not exactly quality time.
So I decided it would be fun to meet Daddy for supper on Saturday night. Some of the parents were taking a BBQ and food into the parking lot to feed the kids supper. So I loaded three children into the van and drove across the city. We found Rexall place fine as I had been there before, and pulled into the parking lot. I wanted to park right by the bus. That way I could open up the back of the van and the kids could sit there to eat, or they could sit in their lawn chairs I had taken with us. It seemed like a good plan. Until Mr. Parking Lot Attendant wouldn't let me pull into the bus parking lot, because I was obviously not driving a bus. I tried to convince him that I was just staying for an hour for supper, but no go. He guided me in the direction of the normal parking lot. The normal paid parking lot. The cost for the day was $12. I argued that I wasn't staying the whole day, just for an hour for supper. Apparently there was no fee for just and hour. Only the $12 all day fee. So I reluctantly handed over $12 so that we could see Daddy for an hour.
After finding a parking place we piled out and attempted to hold hand and navigate the parking lot. Then we crossed over into bus land. Dozens of school buses parked bumper to bumper. Judah was in his glory. I was hoping we could locate the right bus. We walked through the rows of parked buses to the very last row on the far side of the parking lot before we found the right bus.
And then those of you who know Judah can probably guess what happened next. 3 excited children, 40 some teenagers, and a busy Daddy. It was a recipe for disaster. For 45 minutes I tried to feed my children squished into bus seats. Judah ran up and down the bus isle, Aslynn happily visited with her 'friends', and Micah decided he was old enough to attend YC next year. After feeding a minuscule amount of food into the children, and managing to eat a few bites myself, I decided that it was no longer fun to chase Judah through the bus and around the bus and keep him from climbing into the other buses. We headed out - only 45 minutes later.
I don't know who thought that seeing Daddy for supper would be fun. They were wrong. I'm not sure who thought that my three children would simply sit on a bus, eat their food and not run around. Apparently whoever planned this excursion momentarily forgot which children they were taking with them.
