Micah had invited five kids to the party - only two could make it. One was on holidays. Two ended up not being able to come because of, well, Judah. It's really not his fault. He woke up this morning and said, "Daddy, I feel like throwing up." I proceeded to get a pail and pray. Before we leave for VBS, Judah is virtually asleep in Mommy and Daddy's bed and has already gagged several times. And we set him in the car with everyone else since we are without our second vehicle* (see other posts for details). Faith took Judah home after delivering Micah, Aslynn, and myself, after which ensued the puking. When the mother of two of the boys invited heard of Judah's plight, she declined and we were down to two.
Mom had fun making the cake, as usual. It wasn't our full plan, but still elaborate. It meant that she had to go out with our sick boy to get a specific colour for the icing. But this is what came of her efforts:
Micah wanted a Star Wars birthday party. At first he asked for an X-Wing, talked about a Star Destroyer, briefly considered the Death Star, but settled on the Millennium Falcon. I think it's the subliminal messages that his school is sending. Besides, few things in life are as memorable as the Falcon. It was going to have cake pop TIE Fighters and asteroids surrounding it as in the Empire Strikes Back, but we ran out of time. He was happy with the results, as were we.
The kids played in the yard for a while and then the water balloons (thermal detonators) got pulled out. A few games and wet children later, we were back in the house making individual pizzas. They were all fantastic. Then they went outside and soaked each other some more with water buckets and hoses and other paraphernalia lying around our lush green lawn. (Yes, that is code for unkempt and soaking wet).
After we had eaten our Italian creations, I took the kids into the living room and we constructed light sabers. Isn't that what any good Jedi needs to complete their training? It's amazing what you can find in a hardware store that the employees give you sideways looks about when you tell them what you're using hot water tank relief valve tubing and flashlights for. Hockey tape is a miracle of nature, not to be outdone by duct tape. Alliance after alliance happened between forces of good and evil, and then I handed them blasters (water guns) just for show in the house. Is this what you call toys with realistic sounds and lights? They were definitely customized. Mine turned out purple for some reason. Whatever. Hours of fun for a couple bucks. Judah had his mojo back and took it to everyone.
Then we had cake and opened gifts. Looks to me like the Falcon's deflector shields were down and a stray enemy fighter got in a few advantageous shots. Micah was about to cut the cake with the light saber, but he resisted like any good Jedi should. You can tell it was difficult with a Sith egging him on seated next to him - "Micah, give in..."
All in all, everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was a lot of fun in the midst of our regularly scheduled chaos. Micah, we love you and think you are amazing.

Awesome cake!! I only made a cupcake light saber for our Star Wars party (a couple years back) b/c it was EASY. LOL! Sounds like it was a blast. Literally!
