Last year Mark's salary went up just above the tax cut line which meant for the first time in our marriage we had to pay our Alberta Health Care (AHC). Before this we had always been subsidized. Oh boy did I complain. $88.00 a month was a lot of money a month to me and I was not happy about it. Well no more complaining from me.
We were talking to a nurse the other day and she gave us some interesting stats about costs at the hospital. Judah has had several different medications and medications that they have given him. The big one is two doses of Servavta. One dose of this would cost $1,600. So the two together would be $3,200. I didn't even ask what the other medications would be. But we did find out that a normal stay in the Special Care Nursery would be about $1700 a day. Judah's is even higher than that because he has had his own personal nurse 24hrs a day. Then on top of these costs are the ambulance rides which will be over $10,000 because of the high-risk neo-natal transport team nurse & a respiratory specialist and two paramedics.
Thank Goodness for Alberta Health!!!
