1) Invite friends in Caronport over before we left for the summer sans gifts
2) Party at the Siebert farm with cousins and friends in the Grande Prairie area
3) His actual birthdate with a meal and gifts at Nation's
All of these were fun, and they ranged from most psycho to least psycho. The first one involved having around 8 kindergarten kids plus ours in a trailer on a wet wet day when we had planned outdoor games. Things turned out alright, although we didn't know which girl was friends with which as we tried so hard not to leave anyone out. We have limited space in the trailer, you know. Boys playing mini-sticks floor hockey in the living room, girls pretending with dress up clothes, some crazy games and a scavenger hunt - it was a little nuts. At least we had them eat something besides cake and no-one died. Micah had selected a pretty cool array of finger food.
On to the Siebert party! He thoroughly enjoyed the company and gifts that greeted him up north. 15 kids and some parents made this one much simpler, and I thank Mom and Dad for the house, food, and fun. Trampolines, soccer games, and playing on the toys downstairs were the activities. Again, no-one died. There was a much greater adult-to-child ratio at this party, for which we were grateful. Carmen took some photos for us because our camera was on the fritz and met the garbage can with a bang. I think Faith and I had a lot more fun at this party ourselves seeing old friends and not having to do as much hands-on supervision and directing. Micah's cake was a race track shaped like a six with on-ramps, off-ramps, and overpasses (don't think too grandiose, it wasn't like a clover leaf or anything) with candies and icing and cars and all.
Today is Micah's actual day. Happy birthday, Micah! We went to church to hear Shane Dell preach and came home to a delightful loony lunch that Micah had chosen. We had mostly appetizers, dips, veggies, crackers and a cheese ball, and spiral sandwiches. Then there was more cake followed by our gift to him - a "new" bike! Hopefully I can return the handlebars back to their original position after trying to raise them. It's pretty cool. He was happy. And he's still playing with all of the other gifts he got too. Cars, cars, and more cars, a rescue hero and building materials, a Lego 8-in-1 mortorcycle set - what more could a six-year-old ask for? It was a good "birthday" overall. Thank you everyone.
