Yesterday. Micah was recounting for us an event that occurred when we lived at our duplex in Calgary. He awoke to see a little alien standing on his floor. "That kinda freaked me out," says Micah. He would have come to get us, but then he saw an even bigger alien standing in front of the door. "He looked mean, too." So Micah devised a genius plan. He threw his pillow at the little alien to squish him and hid under his blankets until the big alien left. When Micah finally noticed the big alien was gone, he quickly snuck out and grabbed his pillow. That's how he recounts the nightmare...
Aslynn, not to be outdone by her older brother's story, came up with one today. She called it her "sleep-mare about a pom-pom" (It's amazing what this girl can cook up on the fly). Apparently the pom-pom was in her castle (she has a life-sized Barbie castle in her room that takes up half of the space) and it said to her, "Are you still awake?" Aslynn didn't want to answer the pom-pom, so it kept bugging her. She was scared. We tried explaining to her what a pom-pom was, but I don't think she quite got it. "It had this long spike," she said, "and then it went under my bed and lifted it up so then I saw the giant."
Faith is killing herself laughing by this point. She had attempted to keep a straight face and a look of concern, but it totally wasn't working. I was surprised the cabbage rolls she was eating didn't come out of her nose. Aslynn now realizes she has us going, so the story gets more and more zany. She threw bubble gum at the pink and purple pom-pom because the giant told her it would stop it, but it didn't. On and on she goes about this scary pom-pom, and I'm imagining an illustrated book about the tale and a publishing career in this girl's future. It was hilarious! When do you tell her to stop? I think I stopped her about the time the nonsense began to take over the current reality she was living in. Perhaps I was too late, but I gotta tell you, the entertainment value was priceless. Even Judah sat and listened intently. Micah missed out because he was at hockey. What a night though.
