Judah's 2nd Birthday

Judah turned two on Monday, so celebrated his birthday on Sunday night with a few friends. He didn't really have a choice - we chose them for him. He's only two, after all. However, He decided what he wanted for a cake a long time ago. It seems that most of the gifts people bought him fit the unspoken theme perfectly!

After church that morning, we went to DQ for some sweet deals on some sweet meals and watched our kids play Ring-Around-the-Rosy with people we did and did not know. THey even got some teens playing with them (the kids are infectiously cute, you know). After we got home and the kids had a nap, they watched Cars the movie. Judah was glued to the TV. We knew he liked it, but the other two kids hadn't let Judah watch it for months, so I decided it was time to pull it out again.

That evening, guests came for gifts, games, and cake. Faith and I spent the afternoon crafting the cakes, and an evening before that shaping them. Yes, there was more than one cake. There were three of them. We had considered just making the main character, but we figured that we would probably run out of red icing pretty quickly. So we made three smaller cakes: Lighting McQueen (Ka-chow), Chick Hicks (Chick), and Strip Weathers (the King). The italicized words are the names Judah uses. Some fancy cutting, some tooth pics, specialty food colouring, and icing later, this is how they looked...

You may ask how long it took to make the cakes, and I'd direct you to the recipe book for the approximate preparation and baking time. And then I'd just laugh at you and tell you they were wrong this time.

It was a lot of fun watching the kids try to pin the sticker on Lighting, and it was just as fun watching the adults try. Aslynn won. Don't ask me how - the adults tried cheating and didn't even come close!

Beyond that, Judah now has a floor mat and 15 cars from the movie to play with on it along with two Cars carrying cases, an arctic zoo exhibit for his cars to visit, emergency vehicles with working lights and sirens to rescue his cars, and a bulldozer to clear off the mat when he's done. He also got a great board puzzle that I'm sure he'll use once the novelty of the cars wears off a little. We'll let you know when that happens.

All in all, he's a pretty happy two-year-old. Happy birthday, Judah.

Seriously you guys - those cakes are amazing! Jaxson and Eli were drooling over them and said "mom could you make those for us?" and I replied "um, I'm not so sure about that!"
