The final score was 9-5 for the Central Butte Flyers over the Caronport Cougars. Micah's team lost another hockey game. That's the bad news. The good news is that they are improving! Surprisingly, they did not clump together, they played their positions, and their efforts paid off. The team played fairly well. Most of the team, that is. There was one ringer we pulled in from Moose Jaw (who lives in Caronport but didn't realize that there was going to be hockey here this year and really would rather play with these kids). This kid got a hat-trick, drew three penalties because the other team decided to trip him, and was a puck-hog. Fortunately, Micah was not on his line.
Micah assisted on the first goal of the game. He and his linemates carried the puck into the zone, Micah fought his way out of the corner, passed it out front, and we scored! You should have seen how stoked the team was. And Micah got his first point!
That wasn't all. Later in the game, the kid he passed to was having trouble in front of the net. Micah came in to help when the puck squirted out to him. Micah says, "It was a one-timer! I shot the puck and it went off the goalie's stick and in the net!" At first they credited the goal to someone else, but later in the game they corrected the announcement and gave the credit to Micah.
We were just happy that he was actually going into the corners, working for the puck instead of waiting for it, and had a mean passing game going on. He did such a great job, and we were proud of him. We would have been excited for him even if he hadn't gotten any points in the game, but hey, when the youngest player on the ice deserves to score because he played well, you tell everyone.
