A Guynup Gathering (2009)

Everyone in the family was invited to join in a bit of a shin-dig at James and Christina's place (a.k.a. Grandpa & Grandma's farm). If you didn't get the memo or simply couldn't come, I'm sorry - you missed a good time and we missed you. I'm having a conniption trying to figure out which 10 pictures of the nearly 200 I shot should make it into this particular blog. That's only 5%. And of course, the photos aren't as amazing as others produced in the family (who never cease to amaze me with their prowess and success with the camera), but these should give you some sense of the action that happened there this year.

We arrived Saturday for lunch and set up a few a few games for the kids. There was a photo scavenger hunt for the kids and one for the adults as well. The kids did a tug'o'war, tossed water balloons back and forth to one another, had an egg-on-a-spoon race, and generally just goofed around. A lot of the kids brought their bikes and rode around the yard. They also played on the slip and slide in the heat as well. The most popular toy for our kids this year was the motorized mini-Jeep that we could barely pry Judah away from. Micah and the other boys were bale-jumping when they weren't doing anything else. They also rode Blaze, the horse. I'll blog about these over the coming week, of course. Oh, and the babies were so cute! Caleb and Maria got lots of cuddle time. I hope we can meet Norah soon too! We all got a lot of food, laughs, and sun. I'm sure we all increased our risk of getting skin cancer this weekend like most of the rest of the population as is evident by the red on our necks. We placed the final name plate on Grandma & Grandpa's headstone at the end of it all.

Thanks James and Christina for inviting us. You were great hosts.

By the way, Uncle Robert is not technically one of the kids. We needed an approved baby-holder for Maria.

We wish they all could have been there, but I'm sure some had good reasons (like having a baby, right Matt & Teresa?). We just wish it was easier to get such a large family together. SO - RESERVE THE MAY LONG WEEKEND NEXT YEAR, BECAUSE WE'RE DOING IT AGAIN. I don't know the location, but it will happen...
