Hot Fun in the Summertime

Ahhhh - the feeling of dangling your toes in the waters' edge on a hot summer's day with ice cream in your hand... and then you set it all aside and dive in as your two-year-old decides he likes swimming and uncoordinatedly faceplants into the deep end. Ah yes. What relaxation.

We went up to Saskatoon to see Luke, Lindy, and Benj on Saturday and had a good time. We went to the splash park, hit a few useless garage sales, and just enjoyed one anothers' company. That is, except at the splash park where it was so busy we could barely keep track of our kids. Judah made a few attempts to swim and had no fear of the water. Aslynn on the other hand would hold up the entire line of kids waiting behind her at the slide until Daddy could come to catch her. Judah would just go regardless of who was at the bottom. Judah also made a few kids upset by grabbing the spray nozzles and redirecting the water all over the innocent bystanders. I didn't get any pictures, but Luke and Lindy got some. I'll have to ask for some.

The next day, our kids were all having parties in their Sunday School classes. Cake and treats were everywhere. It was fun. After the service, we went to Pizza Hut with some friends (where the service was less than wonderful) and then made our way to Auntie Gladys's house. She has been Aslynn and Judah's Sunday School teacher this year (Aslynn used to call her "Auntie Glass"; Judah just calls her "Hi Auntie"). She invited us to use the pool in their backyard. It is 3 1/2' deep at one end and over 8' deep at the other end. It was nice and cool in the heat of the day, but it got so overcast that it did seem a little chilly with a Popsicle in hand and the occasional sprinkle on the head. It was a lot of fun though. They even provided us with some life jackets for our kids.

In the evening, we just sat in our hot house and watched a movie until someone called and invited Micah and I to play Boccie at the Tot Lot (which gave us some good obstacles). Micah almost won - twice. I won the first game, Terry Jackson won the second. I'm so glad that summer has finally come. I feel like I finally got a weekend vacation! The kids are exhausted because neither of the younger two had naps and they have been fairly physically active over the past few days. The kids have needed a few vacation days as much as we have.

P.S.: The kid who said Faith was hot (see last post) was also at Pizza Hut.
