You heard right. We were camping in Calgary. Not in the mountains, not even in the Kananaskis, but in Calgary. Hey, our tradition has become that we camp smack dab in the middle of Edmonton with Jim & Heather - how different is that? It was a lot of fun. Our kids were continually chasing gophers (a.k.a. ground squirrels, prairie dogs, etc.) and pointing them out from our campsite. Jim & Heather brought their tent trailer, we brought our tent. We haven't upgraded yet - student budget, you know...
Well, we set up camp while haggling with employees to get two sites next to one another like I was promised. Sometimes when you visit the office a few too many times people get tired of seeing your face and remember to talk to their manager who approves it just to get you off of his case. Besides, they got their money, what do they care if we aren't disturbing any other campers? I mean, other than Judah shouting, the neighbor kid joining us every two seconds, and the lost balls in the bush, we weren't much of a bother. The horses next door seemed to like us just fine! We had no fire pits unfortunately, but we had running water and a nearby washroom with free showers.
Speaking of showers - yeah. We got rained on. The first night was just cold (around 3 degrees above zero). The second night was cold, windy, and wet. The last night was again cold and wet. When there's no fire to keep warm and few trees to string a tarp to, it's hard to visit outside. We played some cards and had them blow around while we visited, but each of us snuggling into our own beds was what we ended up doing in the end. That wasn't to say we didn't have some adventures together.
