We had invited our small group over about a month ago and Faith had lit some candles and placed them in the bathroom. It wasn't long before Judah was walking out of the bathroom, candle in hand, telling Faith, "We don't need it Mommy!" He was insistent that we blow it out. Why? Because we only use candles when the power is out in our house apparently. We didn't need the candle. Why else would you light one? I mean, there's a two-year-old in the house! Just to put you at rest, the candle was a little party-lite candle in a fairly sturdy, safe holder with a base that does not get hot. Still, it's unnerving to see him coming at you with a candle (or a with steak knife like the other day when he was trying to be helpful setting the table).
Ah, yes. Judah. He came out of our spare bedroom not long ago with such a proud look on his face and said, "Mommy, I did it!" So Faith came to see what he had done that was worthy of celebration. The spare bedroom is also Faith's sewing room. She turned the corner to follow him in and noticed a pair of shears in his hand and some jagged cuts in the quilt that she was making him for Christmas this year. She almost died. It was not good. But he was so proud that he had done some sewing and been so helpful. The quilt got repaired, the scissors were hidden more discreetly, and the boy was removed from the room.
I think I've explained to you his fear of the shower in previous posts. But he has a new nemesis in the tub. At hte end of bothtime he told me, "I no go down the plugger!" When I tried explaining to him that he's too big to go down the drain, he reached his soaking wet arms around my neck and pulled himself out of the tub and repeated, "I no go down plugger!" It's cute. I think he'll get it. He has believed that his toys will go down the drain for a long time and has made sure that they were rescued to the sides of the tub before he vacated in a flash and splash.
The boy is Cheez Whiz - he adds personality wherever he goes. He got the Seminarian of the Week medallion this week for surviving H1N1, and his first response was to give the award to Micah who also had it and gave him the bug. Don't you just love the irony? We're thinking that this week he's going to come up with a rap for his acceptance speech - Faith's working on it right now.
I'm leading worship this week in two places, reading 3 books, doing 2 papers, and hopefully hosting some people this weekend. You'll be lucky if I post anything. But who knows. Judah might pull a fast one on us and we may not be able to resist...
