Faith and I were over at a friend's house on Friday evening to play board games. We had a good time playing Scotland Yard - I got caught in four turns, but the bad guy for the second game, namely Brian, eluded us the whole time. It was past bedtime for the kids, so we put them down at home, but we figured it would be fun to play some more games, so Brian stopped by our place to play some Wii with me. He has an X-Box that has been sent away for the second time (useless Microsoft products) that we enjoy playing Rock Band with. But he hasn't really ever played on a Wii. Well, his whole goal was to beat me at something. We played everything on Wii Sports except baseball. I'm sure we played at least 20 tennis matches and at least as many boxing matches. By the time he won his first and last time, it was past 1 AM! (Am I cruel or what?). It was a lot of fun, anyway.
We went to church on Sunday and he was still bragging about how he beat me. I laughed. We went for lunch with them and let the kids run off some steam in the playplace at McDonalds. It was there that a little four-year-old boy came running in tears to his mother to tell her that Aslynn just kept getting away from him when all he wanted to do was say "Hi". I knew the parent who told me about the little crush her son had on my daughter, and thought it wouldn't be a big deal if he said hello. He could barely get the words out. It was cute. He ended up giving her a freaky Ronald McDonald toy at the end. By the way, she's not dating until she's 30. Okay, maybe that's a little harsh. We'll figure it out when we get there. But no boyfriends for a long, long, long time.
We got home, and it totally felt like a lazy day. Brian and Janice came over with their espresso maker and Catan games and sat down with us to another game. O Brian! Usually he wins at this. I think he was having a headache, but everyone was kind enough to tell me that I had a bad strategy and that I ought to move my game pieces. That made me indecisive. In the end, I put the pieces back where they were and everyone thought I was nuts. That was until I won rather handily. Sure, some was luck, but some always is. It was good strategy because nobody else was doing it. But I'm sure you don't want to hear all the ins and outs of it. We just love to play games, and we're so grateful we have friends to play them with.
After we finished playing Cities and Knights, there was a suggestion that we play Wizard or Aw Shucks, but we all know how that would have gone, so they left.
