Since we were snowed in and couldn't make it to Benji's party, we thought we would have our own with Judah. We thought it might be difficult to convince Judah that he didn't want a Cars™ birthday again, but simply talking about trains for awhile redirected him to another thing that he loves very much, and Faith and her mom were allowed to make a train cake for him. Honestly, he liked the looks of almost every cake in the book that we showed him. I thought he would be harder to please than that!
After we had decided together that Judah actually did want a train cake, Faith went online and found some pictures of other people's cakes to get some ideas so she could steal and warp them into something that Judah would like. What you see is what he liked...
Well, okay, so we didn't completely get away with having Cars™ on the cake. Judah actually made us take them off and put different vehicles on so his "Ka-chow" and Mater didn't get dirty from the icing.
When we asked which friends to invite, Judah asked if Ka-chow and Mack could come. This would have been funnier if we hadn't realized that he doesn't really have that many close friends. We asked if he would like Tanisha over, but he said no. He said no to every girl he could think of: Aslynn, Mommy, Janice, Grandma... So we invited some of the boys from the Moms & Tots time he goes to. That was okay. And after some convincing, Grandma was okay to come too. He seemed to have a good time. But we sure miss having Cade around for Judah to play with. Judah asked to invite Simon and Cade, which we did but knew that they likely wouldn't make the trip from Whitecourt for birthday cake.
The other day, Micah asked to go over to his friend Carter's house to play, then Aslynn asked to go over to Cassandra's house. Judah heard them both and asked Mommy if she could phone Ka-chow so he could go to his house. Then he realized that Ka-chow lived in Mack, so he figured we could call Mack so they could play. Honestly, a slightly more imaginary friend might be easier to deal with. In the words of the old song:
"I know it's true/ Oh so true/ 'Cause I saw it on TV."
