Well, it's hard to imagine, but we have a five-year-old in the house again! Little miss blue eyes was so happy to have her birthday bash. The issue was that she wanted to have a party with a friend of ours and go swimming, then found out that the friend was headed to Brooks and we remembered that Micah had a hockey tournament on Saturday. So much for that! So she celebrated her birthday on the ACTUAL DAY, right around the time she was born, to be most accurate.
She really couldn't decide for the longest time what she wanted for a cake. A butterfly? Or maybe another princess? She was the same way about gifts too. She wanted to replace her broken piggy-bank, but also wanted other random things. When I said "random things", I meant to say "random girly things". So that's what she got and she was pleased with it all! But - back to the cake...
When we ask our kids what they want for their birthday, they never talk about who they want at their party or what they will be doing there, or even what gifts they wish to get. No, the first thing on their minds is, "What kind of cake can Mommy make for me?" Micah doesn't even bat an eyelash and tells Faith to make an Indiana Jones cake knowing that she can pull it off. Judah asks for Cars and trains, and he gets them. Well, this is what Aslynn requested.
A teapot. She and Judah still need pictures to help them figure out what they will ask Faith to do, but Micah will just ask and assume that Faith will know exactly what he means. I told him that next time he's going to ask for a Star Wars cake and she said to me, "I've already been thinking about it..." Wow.
All of the flowers on the teapot were supposed to be Marsipan (I think that's how it is spelled), but we couldn't find the stuff in Moose Jaw. So she found something called "Gum Paste". You probably shouldn't eat it, but it tastes like and sticks like, well, gum. It hardens when you leave it air dry and initially comes in a powder form. It rolled out almost fondant-like. I got to help Faith figure out how to make the flowers, so I must know what I'm talking about, right? All in all, she liked it, and so did we. And she had a good time at home with a few friends, a few random gifts, and a few good laughs.
