I'm looking forward to seeing how many of her challenges I can do to help get my house more clean and organized. She had done 21 days of cleaning in January that I missed, but I might go back and try to do some of those ideas later. In the meantime I'm going to plug away at her bigger challenges and see how they can help in my household.
The first week is over now and the challenge was to create a Home Management Binder. I think this is one of those things in my house that will need continual updating and working on. As a list lover and organizer want-to-be I love the idea of having everything in a binder in one place. I'm hoping this means that I'll lose less paperwork in my house. Let me show you what I came up with.
| I bought a pretty binder |
And some pretty tab dividers for inside.
Then I went to work trying to decide what to put inside it.
I decided on the following sections.
Calendar
Chore Chart
Cleaning
Contacts
Finances
Medical
Menu Planning
Misc.
Some of the sections still need some work. But in the caledar one I put in a page with a week long shedule with our normally scheduled activities on it. Then I have a week overview of what is going on in a specific week, and finally a to-do list for every week.
The chore and cleaning sections are works in progress right now as I figure out a schedule for chores for my kids and a cleaning schedule for me. I also am working on chore pictures for the kids, as well as a morning and nightime routine for them. I found a bunch of pictures online, printed them off and covered them with mactac. The morning and nightime routine I'm going to either put magnets or velcro on the back of them. They will hang on the fridge as a reminder of what to do for the kids, and then they can take them off the fridge when that are done that activity. I'm hoping this will help some of the morning crazyness here, and me continually having to check with the kids to see if they did everything.
The contacts section will eventually become my new address book as I move things over. I'm also going to put this section on the computer.
The financial page will eventually keep track of my bil paying and other paperwork.
In the school section I will keep the notes I get from teachers, the project pages we need to work on in the next month, and the other rules and information I have on the school.
Then in the medical page I will keep track of any medication the kids might need at the time, as well as the details of our medical plan and benifits.
Menu Planning is something I have tried to do since we go married. I re-do my menu's every couple of years, so my present one will go in here until I update it.
And finally we have the Misc. section. In here I have some babysitters pages and other extra things I need to keep track of.
I found a lot ideas for free printables on this blog:
Then I just blog hopped through some pages until I found printables that worked for me.
It was a fun project for the week and I hope to keep working on it until I finish up on the details of some of the sections.
I guesss we'll see what next weeks challenge will be.
