Yup. It was funny. Not in the ha-ha funny sort of way, but in the o-dear-what-are-we-going-to-do-with-you funny sort of way. This happened a couple of weeks ago. I got a phone call from Faith who had received a phone call from the school. The office at Micah's school called asking Faith to come before the lunch hour to pick him up. Micah was in the office, bleeding. He had been playing Capture the Flag in gym class, and a kid in his class was chasing him. Unfortunately for them both, Micah was standing still. The kid tripped as he neared Micah and fell headfirst into Micah's head. His glasses (not Micah's, since his were lost still in Caronport and his replacement pair was in the mail) gouged Micah just above the eye. I would like to tell you that the other kid wasn't so lucky, but Micah got sent to the hospital and the other kid went home. Still, getting stitches or getting scratched and bruised and a mild arm sprain? I think Micah still came away on top.
If it wasn't so deep, we might have considered just getting our doctor to patch it with tape. However, with his skin tone and knowing how easily he scars, it was appropriate that he got stitches. He needed five stitches - one for every hour he sat in the waiting room. Faith figures if she was a panicky mom they may have gotten faster service - and if Micah had been freaking out they might have gotten in sooner. No, we're just a little bit too calm and collected with these things. MJ was bored out of his skull. He had no Judah running around creating havoc to entertain him - I was at home with him and then picked up Aslynn from school, who had already heard about the incident through the school rumor mill.
Micah said the procedure was somewhat painful. The doctor applied a local anesthetic and then tried puncturing him with a needle. Micah has apparently blanked this from his memory, but he got a freezing needle in about five different locations, and then the five stitches. Oh yeah, they poked him lots. But he's tough. We kept the Polysporin on the wound for the next couple weeks, which helped it heal nicely and prevented infection. He resisted scratching his stitches like a champ, and five days later he was at our doctor's office getting them removed. Another waiting room experience, this time with Judah throwing a fit over some toy Micah 'took from him' and all the adventure that brought with it. Maybe he was better off not having Judah at the hospital to entertain him.
