(I wouldn't feel bad for him. Although the last two nights have been for work, this one is purely pleasure as him and Micah are off to watch the Oilers play the Flames tonight. They will both have fun, but one of them is going to be disappointed. The tickets are from our neighbor who has season tickets. He is in Mexico this weekend and thought our boys would enjoy the seats rather then leave them empty.)
Both boys are smiling at this point. Within moments of sitting down, Micah met some Flames fans up in the nosebleeds where the seats were. And seconds later he's wearing a hat that didn't belong to him.
The lights came up, music rocked, and we watched both teams stride on to the ice like they owned it.
For the first few moments, the Oilers owned. 2-0 before you could say hey-Bob-howdy. And the Flames answered back twice. Four goals in the first four minutes? That's how it felt. We were all going nuts.
It was sold out. Capacity crowd. And it was an exciting game to watch. The first period the crowd was electric. The scoreless second was less so. Edmonton couldn't put a power-play together to save their lives. But the third came alive again. The Oilers gained the advantage, and Micah was concerned. Soon Calgary returned the favour and made the game even once again. Chance after chance after chance. And Calgary capitalizes. The boy goes nuts!
Edmonton pulled Khabibulin with around four minutes left in the game. It was so close. Micah was vibrating in his seat! And of course the empty-netter settles things. Even after that, The Oil had some chances. But we both knew it was over.
What do you think of the post-game face? Yeah. Priceless. Even if my team lost. It was worth it. (And I got free parking to boot.)
