Skiing with Micah

Last week we were supposed to be skiing with the school (Micah and I), but we would have been frozen into popsicles had we tried. It was simply too cold. Buses were cancelled one day last week due to the -47 degree wind-chill factor, but Micah and Aslynn were driven to school anyway since last year Micah got reamed out at school for not attending since he was a 'town kid'. I felt like such a sinner sending them. Anyway, I had volunteered to chaperone. It didn't happen.

Micah's school does swimming lessons for grades 1-3, but the grade fours get 3 ski trips to Rabbit Hill. They were so happy to have a leader who works with kids on a regular basis

So today was his first time ever on skis. Ever.

And I strapped on the snowboard again - first time since I wrecked my leg while boarding with our youth group in Calgary at Nakiska Calgary about 5 years ago.

I want you to finish the story. What do you think happened?

Remember, this is the crazy life. Nothing is too absurd.

Micah was a natural (as he is at all things sports) and is now part of the national ski team. Mark is an old fart and broke every bone in his body. The end.

Close. You should have seen the bruises. I had no idea that it was possible to bruise in those locations! There was nothing broken or damaged but my pride - I took my first snowboarding lesson which helped. And I was helping kids most of the day. I was at the scene of one kid's colossal wipeout and painful trip to the first aid building. Most of the kids who were hurt that day came from Micah's class.

Of course, on his first day skiing he goes on a black diamond. And wipes out. With a smile on his face nonetheless. I did it too, minus the wipeout. I got dragged up the T-bar a distance with one foot off my board and managed to salvage it with applause following at the top of the hill.

Micah did great. I was glad to be able to spend time with him out there. Next time, it's back to skis. A few of the students from my youth group were out there mocking my boarding abilities. God grant me (and Micah) the gift of humility - SHAZAM. (Haven't you always wanted to say that at the end of a prayer?)
