Aslynn's Birthday Party

Yesterday was Aslynn's birthday, but we had her party today. It turns out that March tends to be birthday month for a large number of people, including one of Aslynn's classmates named Kamryn. Fortunately both girls invited one another to each others' parties, both on the same day but at different times. NOTE: Disaster narrowly averted HERE.

So Aslynn first went to Kamryn's birthday at McDonalds. And had fun. That was from 11 AM to 1 PM. So we made Aslynn nap before her party at 3 PM. So she tried. I'm not sure how successful she was. Or Judah for that matter. But at least we still had some time to do some tidying and complete the cake. In fact, the cake was completed early for once. And it was great.

The first girl showed up almost fifteen minutes early. It was fine. Little girls streamed in, 6 in all, and had a great time. They did crafts, played with her dolls and toys - ooh, and get this, according to Aslynn's friends, she's spoiled. We figured it was the pink bedroom with the mini-castle containing her own private kitchen. Eventually we ate a cake that was almost too cute to eat, and they opened gifts at the end. Aslynn ended up crying briefly at one point because things just got a little bit too loud (which she was party to) and the girls briefly dispersed. At one point a friend came out of our bathroom wearing Aslynn's dress-up clothes while holding the clothes she wore to the party. We thought that was interesting. We insisted she change back before her parents arrived.

And then it was time to open gifts. One of the girls was a little bit sick in the morning so she missed the first party, but she brought along a gift for Kamryn to our party since she was here. We thought that was great. One by one the girls left shortly after the gift opening. That was by design. Aslynn was rather distracted from the toys by the girls, so we had a chance to assemble and remove all the twist-ties and security devices from the packaging (heavy-duty stuff). The boys desperately wanted to play with Aslynn's toys, so with a little bit of coercion she agreed. I was surprised at how long they played with the dolls and pretended with her.

Faith and I were pretty tired by the end of it all. But it was a good time had by all!
