I introduced the kids to downtown Calgary on Friday. We headed to Devonian Gardens first where we had what Micah considered a much delayed snack. Once snack time was over and our tummies were full we were all in much better moods and wandered around the gardens for awhile. We than decided to go and find the Calgary tower so that the kids could see it from the bottom. This meant that we got to walk down Stephan Avenue during the lunch break. It was a warm day and everyone was out for a walk. the streets were full, there were live bands playing, businesses handing out lots of free stuff for advertisements. The kids took in the craziness with big eyes, absolutely enjoying being there. When we reached the tower the Calgary Vipers baseball team was having a promotion where if you threw a baseball and got it in the target you would win tickets to the next baseball game. Both of the kids tried and neither got it in. Micah was so close though. The guys down there must have been bored and not handing out a lot of tickets because they told the kids that they could have some anyways for just trying so hard. So we won baseball tickets for this week. Although baseball is not really our game it will be fun to introduce the kids to something new. After visiting at the tower for awhile and eating our second snack of the day,(Chips and pop they were handing out on Stephan Ave.), we went to A&W and got burgers to go. We ate them in Olympic Plaza before hading home for the day. The kids had a lot of fun and wanted to take Daddy with them next time we went. I think that I will try to go down one day during Stampede because there will be lots going on than that will be fun.
Our weekend was rounded out with another trip to the splash park on Saturday and a visit up to Bowden to visit Uncle Brian, Auntie Joy, Noah & Shayla. I'm enjoying being in a place for awhile that there are lots of things to show the kids. Especially since I can do so much of it for free. Mark is gone for the week up at Manitou Lake Bible Camp speaking. Pray for him that he gets everything worked out and planed and that the speaking goes well. I know that he always gets nervous, but enjoys doing it and absolutely loves being at a camp.
With Mark gone I have lots of plans for distracting the kids for the week so that they are busy and don't miss Daddy as much. We are starting with a trip to the library this morning and hopefully the fireworks tonight.
