This weekend was packed full of special moments for our family.
Micah had his first basketball tournament. He did rather well personally, though his team didn't fare the best. What I mean is, Micah gained a lot of respect from his coach because of his play and attitude. He brought energy to the team, enthusiasm, he listened, made fast breaks, and chose to shoot the ball more often. Of course, that meant the team had more opportunities to put points up on the board.
One game Micah had 5 points (his team's score was only 8, which coincidentally is his basketball number and that of Auntie Jana and Uncle Eric). This is him taking a foul shot in his final game for 7th place. This was their first win of the tournament.
One of the reasons the team wasn't as strong could be due to the fact that one team dropped out before the tournament began and that meant our team was split in two with a few kids added who never made the team in the first place. Not that they were bad players - they just hadn't played together. Of course, Micah also had a chance to play in the game for 3rd place because their other team made it slightly further. 21-20 was the final score. They won the consolation final! It seemed so strange for him to play on two different teams - and win the 7th and 3rd place games. Cool.
Judah was on his own special mission on Saturday. He asked for the goalie pads last week, so he and I tried them out on Friday at the rink next to his school. He did alright. He told me he wouldn't quit until the game was over. So he went out there and - took pictures with his team? And then played a game of scrimmage.
At photos he told one of his coaches that there was no way he would ever be goalie again.
And then he got playing for a little while. And looked behind himself several times.
He pulled a few sweet moves - and saved a bunch in a row. He really did try. And did well.
This next one is Judah taking a break in the net. It looked rather comfortable through our laughter.
He had some pretty good grins. This was all in between two of Micah's basketball games which we happily dragged Grandpa and Grandma Nation to.
A good day was had by all. I don't have pictures of this, but Aslynn had her own little shopping adventure. I should get some shots of her modeling her purchases here. She was pretty happy to spend some time and money with Grandma and Mommy. Besides, the rest of the weekend was really all about the boys - she needed some girl time :) In the midst of it all, I was cutting and repurposing Ikea furniture into a shelving unit in the room that Grandpa and Grandma stayed in. We ended Saturday with pizza and a rented movie about animals who resisted a housing development with the aid of Brendan Fraser called "Furry Vengeance". It didn't spoil the night ;)
